eTOPIA RELEASE OF RE: TURNS – ARTIST ESSAY ON THE FOUND POLAROIDS PROJECT

Found Polaroids (2011- ongoing)

The short essay discusses creative storytelling, the evolution of the project, and the importance of vernacular photography. A short curation of submitted stories can be found at the bottom of the article.

The essay was published in a special e-journal version of TOPIA – an academic journal that focuses on critical research in cultural studies in Canada and beyond. The edition was comprised of peer-reviewed scholarship that was presented at the annual graduate conference Intersections/Cross-Sections – with this years theme being ‘Re-Turns’. The Found Polaroid project was apart of a juried exhibition as a contribution to a material turn. In addition to the exhibition, a flash-fiction workshop was programmed the submitted stories were compiled into a limited edition broadsheet zine. Generously supported by conference funding, the participants received a copy of the zine.

It is an open source journal, so if you’re interested in reading it, here is the link.
